Title: Teachers' motivational dissonance in CALL environments
Authors: Françoise Raby
Abstract: To what extent do CALL environments impact teachers' motivation? From the theoretical viewpoint, this contribution will borrow from ergonmic constructs to explain how CALL contexts create "highly dynamic environments" and potentially foster patterns of "motivational dissonance". These two concepts will be then tested against the empirical data derived from two field studies carried out in French language centres. The methodology used is akin to triangulation. Results gathered from teachers observations and teachers interviews will show that while such environments do generate cognitive dissonance, they also generate the mechanisms that make it possible for the teachers to come to terms with their doubts or dissatisfaction.
