Title: ICT Education Using Web-English
Authors: Hideko Nakano
Abstract: Web-English is a web-based English learning system including English learning materials designed for both self learning and teaching at the tertiary level. Since 2007 it has included four learning sections: basic grammar, daily activities with illustration, technical English: reading & vocabulary, and exercises for Technical English Tests. They were designed and built reflecting the learnersEneeds from the questionnaires conducted among the students and teachers by the author and the IT technicians. This paper first describes the features of the material and the merits of learning with Web-English, examining the results of the experiment with Web-English and the questionnaires given to the learners. Next, two integrated learning module for English leaning which were conducted in the classes in 2008 are shown: (1) G-TELP on-line test used as placement tests and self learning materials (Test-Module), and (2) Current English Education using podcast movie news CNN Student NewsE(Podcast Module).
The G-TELP on-line test section was developed for using the tests as assessment tests, placement tests, and self-learning materials by our group and G-TELP (Co.) in 2008. G-TELP is a paper-based test with an international standard for assessing the learnersEEnglish listening and reading proficiency. We made the quizzes on the Web-English using the quiz-designer tool, Web-ExerciseE which is a quiz-designing system in Web-English.
CNN Student News can be subscribed to the readers in podcast files. Thanks to the RSS feed, teachers can save time to download the web new materials. The detailed experiment and results in both learning module will be shown in the presentation.
