Title: Design, development and implementation of a virtual instructional design model for online teacher development courses
Authors: Liliana Cuesta
Abstract: The challenge of adopting virtual education as a mode to respond the needs of a global knowledge society in the 21st century undoubtedly requires the existence and implementation of systematic instructional models that fulfill the students’ learning needs and develop autonomous and collaborative academic practices mediated by Information and Communication Technologies.

In response to the worldwide requirements for innovation and improvement in higher education programs, it was decided in our department, that a project was created to implement an open, flexible, and learner-centered methodological offer in online courses, which allows students in language teaching programs to expand their knowledge through lifelong experiences through the use of technology.

This demonstration will present a systematic construction and implementation of an online course, grounded under the fusion of principles and features from Salmonīs (2000) and Kellerīs (1987) instructional design theories as well as Constructivist theory. It is to note that this demonstration will be based on a course design experience that has been the basis to create virtual courses in our university in the last two years.

This demonstration will provide participants with a practical innovation in the field of online courses. This session will present a framework of design, development and implementation of a virtual instructional design model for online teacher development courses and sets basic principles that could be used to create a future offer of virtual courses in teacher education programs both in national and global environments.
